Project Breakdown

In the summer of 2022, I took on the role of Lead Designer and Creative Director for the Purple Block Party, a community event focused on celebrating the West Side of Chicago. The event's branding needed to capture the essence of unity, the vibrancy of a block party, and the cultural significance of Chicago's West Side, all through the lens of various shades of purple.

Project Overview:
The project was proposed in mid-June 2022, with a tight deadline for all creative assets to be completed by the second week of August 2022. I led a small but talented three-person creative team to bring this vision to life. My responsibilities included art direction for the logo, overseeing the creation of all branding and promotional materials, and providing creative direction to the web design team. Additionally, I developed web assets that aligned with the overall theme and aesthetic of the event.

Design Approach:
The event’s visual identity was built around the theme of "Chicago Westside, Unity, and Block Party," with a focus on different shades of purple. This color scheme was consistently applied across all print and digital materials, including stage banners, gate banners, step-and-repeat banners, tickets, wristbands, press passes, and security bandages for the event. Digital assets were crafted for social media platforms, mass text campaigns, and promotional videos, ensuring a cohesive look and feel across all channels.

Impact:
The creative assets designed for the Purple Block Party were instrumental in driving engagement and creating buzz around the event. On social media, our content averaged 8,000 engagements per post, with one particular post reaching over 24,000 people within just 24 hours. The event successfully sold over 1,000 tickets and received rave reviews from city officials, local and major media outlets. The overwhelming response from the community led to requests for the Purple Block Party to become an annual event, solidifying its impact and success.

Conclusion:
The Purple Block Party was a dynamic and rewarding project that showcased my ability to lead a team, manage tight deadlines, and deliver high-impact designs across multiple platforms. It stands as a testament to the importance of cohesive branding and creative direction in bringing an event to life and ensuring its success.
